Have you ever wished to hire a financial planner but found it to be too cost prohibitive? That’s where companies such as Grove come in. Founded in 2015 in San Francisco by Chris Hutchins, Grove has democratized financial planning and advice. The idea was to create a service for millennials and anyone else who needs help getting their finances in order but can’t afford a costly professional. They incorporated the wisdom and lessons from professional financial planners into an app that uses tech to deliver the advice from professionals to consumers on a vast scale. It works for whatever position you are in, whether you are saving for something, building an investment portfolio, or trying to get out of debt, and by working to your specific needs it goes beyond just providing general advice.

It is the attention to detail at Grove that separates them from companies that have tried doing similar things, and unlike those that seem focused at making money off their users, Grove’s focus is on making money for their users. Grove certainly doesn’t come cheap, and they’ve priced themselves at $600 a year in the beginning and later at $900 a year. However, keep in mind this is far less than a professional would cost, and the service is far more in-depth and personalized than the lower-cost algorithm-based apps are. It is also fast to set up and easy to use, with none of the complications and confusion that are also associated with finance. The automated investing app Wealthfront has recently purchased Grove, and while individual companies may come and go, it is clear that such tech-based financial services are the future, and for future generations, financial planning will be easier and cheaper than ever.
