JetBlue has been getting planes from Airbus ever since the A330s, which were built in Mobile, Alabama. JetBlue has ordered newer planes from the company, which is well timed with the announcement of their plans to scale up in that area. As JetBlue is modernizing their fleet, they have put in the order for 60 of Airbus’ A220-300 models. Along with their A321s and the A320s that underwent a redesign, JetBlue has a strong range of models that have put them in a good economic position in this marketplace, with the ability to grow and be able to invest where needed.

If the A220-300 seems familiar, it is because it is essentially just the Bombardier C Series under a different name. Bombardier has been around a lot longer than JetBlue, but they were able to make a deal with Airbus which gave them their C Series models. Considering their position in the marketplace in Mobile, Alabama, it made perfect sense for them to team with Airbus, thus expanding their market share. The manufacturing capacity in Mobile is not large enough to handle 60 planes, but the scale of the order gives them the guarantee that more orders are around the corner. Airbus’ decision to modernize is a win-win scenario for both Airbus and Bombardier, and they can both expect steady business ahead of them. Better yet, it looks like JetBlue is considering also giving an upgrade to many of their A320s, which would be a boon for manufacturing in the region.
